Spring on Oxford Street: Top things to do

26 February 2023

Spring has finally sprung and what better way to celebrate than with delicious food, jaw-dropping views of London, thought-provoking art, games, and of course, plenty of fashion? You’ll find all these and more on Oxford Street this spring…

Enjoy some interactive art

Who says you have to go to the museum to take in some art? In March, you’ll be able to take an in-depth look at the Surrealism movement at the Frameless art talk, great if you’re a fan of the works of Salvador Dali, Max Ernst et al. For something a little more modern (and digital), The Outernet is unmissable. The one-of-a-kind venue houses giant screens and plays host to music performances, art shows and cultural moments from established and up-and-coming artists.

Take in the London views

Whether you’re a Londoner or visiting from somewhere else, you’ll never get tired of the breathtaking views of the city. Get the lift straight up to Selfridges’ rooftop to take in the sights, but also feast on the day-to-night seasonal Italian dishes at Alto by San Carlo – the restaurant has been transformed into an Italian terrace, making you feel like you’re dining Al Fresco on the Italian Riviera. Just a short stroll away at John Lewis, you’ll find Willows on the Roof, a cosy rooftop garden you’d never guess was there – the perfect sanctuary from the busy street below. The decor and food change seasonally, but you can expect tasty cocktails and sharing platters made with the finest English produce.

Pamper Yourself

Whether you’ve got an hour to kill or a whole afternoon to fill, you’ll be able to get pampered on Oxford Street. The Lush Spa offers everything from 30-minute facials and baths (yes, you read that right) to 80-minute full body massages, ensuring you leave fully relaxed. You can get a quick mani or pedi at Rawr, Primark’s beauty bar, as well as a wash and blowdry at Dyson’s Beauty Lab. Men needn’t feel excluded either, as they can enjoy hair styling and beard grooming, as well as waxing and manicures at Pall Mall Barbers inside Intimissimi Uomo and Ted’s Grooming Room.

Embrace your inner child

Life would just be a little dull if we never played, wouldn’t it? Consider Oxford Street London’s playground, where you can golf, sing and play games. At Boom Battle Bar, you can take your pick between augmented reality axe throwing or dart throwing, shuffle board, beer ping or crazier golf, and even test your vocals in the karaoke bar. Though we’ll warn you, your competitive side will come out big time. At Swingers, you’ll be able to enjoy a seriously cool and fun crazy gold course, while sipping on their amazing cocktails. Let your imagination take hold at the Twist Museum, home to mind-altering rooms full of illusions.

Indulge in a dessert crawl

Have a sweet tooth? Then you’ve come to the right place. You can walk from one end of Oxford Street to the other and sample dozens of sweet treats along the way, such as the Original Glazed doughnuts at the brand new Krispy Kreme store, Dumdums at Market Halls (a French pastry take on doughnuts), pastries and cake at Simit Sarayi, cinnamon buns at Ole & Steen, and afternoon tea at Huffkins.

Visit flagship stores

Many big fashion brands have made Oxford Street their home, opening flagship stores that are well worth the visit for a bigger and better experience you’d get at their other stores. Try BOSS for men and women’s tailored pieces and occasion wear, Mango for trend-led clothing, Pandora and Swarovski for a bit of sparkle and Under Armour for stylish yet performance sportswear. On the tech side of things, you’ll be able to while away the hours testing out the latest gadgets at Samsung, the Microsoft Experience Centre and Dyson. For that hint of nostalgia, don’t miss out on browsing the range of music, film and merchandise at the brand new HMV, back after a four-year absence. And of course, for stores that will please all customers, do head to the iconic Selfridges and John Lewis.

Break a sweat

We all know the physical and mental benefits of exercise, and if you missed out on the January health-kick, then spring is the time to start. You can join the Asics Run Club for free weekly runs every Wednesday and Friday, which are tailored to suit all levels. What a lovely way to take in London. For something a little different, try The Bowl at Selfridges, where advanced and intermediate skaters can skateboard to their heart’s content (little skaters under the age of 7 sadly aren’t allowed). Boards, padding and helmets are provided so you can just turn up. If you prefer gentle exercise, simply stroll around the many parks on Oxford Street, including Cavendish Square and Soho Square.
