Oxford Street is known worldwide for its wide-ranging selection of stores across beauty, technology, home and of course, fashion. There are stores to suit all tastes, from the minimalists to the maximalists, and the good news is you’ll be able to find an outfit on the shopping street no matter what your budget is. Here are our favourite womenswear, menswear and kids’ fashion stores, organised by budget per outfit, to make your shopping experience a little bit easier.
Your fashion budget per outfit: under £50
It’s a common misconception that to shop in London, you have to spend a lot of money, but you’ll be pleased to hear that on Oxford Street, there are a few stores where you can get a lovely outfit for under £50. Don’t believe us? Primark are perhaps the best known shop for affordable clothing, where you can buy a woman’s t-shirt and trousers for as little as £20, a men’s joggers and sweatshirt for £26 and kids’ loungewear for £7 (they have amazing baby clothes and homeware too). At H&M, you’ll also be able to find some bargains across all categories, especially when there’s a sale on. We’ve seen some great dresses, shirts and kids’ co-ords, all well under £50. At Next, you’ll be spoiled for choice, with thousands of affordable buys from their own label and other brands too. For budget sportswear, head straight to JD Sports, where there are often sales and deals to be had. Finally, jewellery doesn’t have to cost the earth, and at Accessorize and Lovisa, you’ll find styles for as little as £3.
Your fashion budget per outfit: £50-£100
If you have up to £100 to spend for an outfit, you’ll have even more choice. You’ll know all the big names, the ones that tick all the trends and also offer more timeless styles: Zara, Mango, River Island and M&S. There, you’ll find great womenswear, menswear and kidswear, as well as a few home and beauty bits. Some of the lesser known stores you might not have come across before are well worth a visit. Stradivarius is full of fun and more casual buys, while Reserved – which opened to much funfare a few years ago (Kate Moss was in attendance) – are great for slightly more premium, cool buys. For men, Jack & Jones are great for smart casual outfits including linen shirts and chinos.
Your fashion budget per outfit: £100-£200
Fancy splurging a little more? Oxford Street is full of premium high street brands that don’t compromise on style or quality. Zara’s big sister, Massimo Dutti are one such store. Once specialising in wool and cashmere, they now stock all categories of men and women’s clothing, with a focus on good quality, timeless pieces that still subtly nod to trends. Meanwhile, H&M’s sister brand & Other Stories are a little more avant-garde and offer more premium materials such as silk and cashmere. At T.K. Maxx, you’ll be able to find some discounted designer finds from the likes of Missoni and Burberry in their Gold Label section. For traditional fashion with a contemporary twist, look no further than Gap and Benetton, which are both particularly good for denim.
Your fashion budget per outfit: £200-£500
Didn’t we tell you there was a store (well, several stores) for every budget? If you fancy splurging a little more on your outfit, then a good place to start is ALLSAINTS, the original purveyors of leather jackets – although they are great at denim and basics too. For something more formal, check out Reiss, who offer smart tailoring and occasion wear for men, women and even kids. For those finishing touches, we recommend Russell & Bromley, Dune for leather and suedes bags, boots and sandals, and Pandora and Swarovski for silver and gold jewellery and some higher end pieces made of ethical diamonds and crystals.
Your fashion budget per outfit: the sky’s the limit
In a dream world where money is no object, you could amble over to Selfridges and pick up a designer outfit or two, from the likes of Prada or Dior, then make your way to Flannels for even more designer fashion from labels such as Valentino and Alexander McQueen. Then onto Omega or Watches of Switzerland for a special watch that’ll last you a lifetime. If it’s diamonds and other precious stones you’re after, head over to H.Samuel – though they admittedly have diamonds for every budget too.
