For those unfamiliar with Mediterranean cuisine, the enchanting restaurant Sofra is a great place to start. This chic eaterie serves a vast selection of traditional sharing plates or mezze. Among Mediterranean treats on offer are grilled meatballs, prawn guvech casserole, fried haloumi and spicy lamb.
Came here for lunch with my partner, was quite surprised to how small the restaurant was but was not an issue at all. However we did find that the waitress was quite abrupt and not very welcoming at all (she was around 40-50). The waitress also happened to get our food wrong as well upon order, however the food itself was very nice, just a shame that the atmosphere took away from the experience. The kebab itself was good, nothing I haven't tasted before, also the salad portion was very poor. Prices are of course of London standard. Overall 3/5. An average experience.
We’ve eaten breakfast at this little spot around half a dozen times over the last last couple of years and I can hand on heart say it’s been a pleasure on every occasion.
The English breakfast isn’t the greasy mix you get elsewhere - it’s a lean dish that places quality over quantity. That said, it’s still more than enough to fill you up, especially given the fantastic warm bread appetiser (with clotted cream and rose jam - don’t knock it until you’ve tried it!).
The service is always exemplary - staff are friendly, attentive, at the food is served in good time!
If you’re lucky enough to bump into the owner, he’s always incredibly convivial and has plenty of stories!
Never again. Sofra used to be good. Fresh food, clean restaurant, reasonable service. It’s a car crash now. Messy, disorganised with utterly miserable looking staff. Toilets disgusting, right next to kitchens with doors wide open between the two and tissues overflowing onto the floor. Massive slanging match between kitchen staff as I went down. Lovely to have all that anger in your food. Tabbouleh was a rip off. Tasty but portion size was tiny. Iskender chicken just a mass of dry chicken swamped in yoghurt. Hardly seasoned, bland and almost no tomato or garlic to speak of. Spicy chicken pot flooded with nondescript curry powder showing no evidence of professional cooking, pride or care. Just sloppy. £40 for 2 people, no alcohol and food worthy of a fast food take away (with the audacity of a service charge!). Awful. Richly deserves the 1 star ratings for taking customers for fools (most customers were tourists or foreign and didn’t seem particularly discerning).
If I could give 0 stars I would, what a shocking lunch!!! I’m not entirely sure what they served upto us but it 100% wasn’t chicken!!! Disgusting and un edible, other than the location there is nothing OK about this restaurant! Cleanliness is questionable - avoid at all costs!!
Very small place, yet mouthwatering kebabs in London!
Took a take away and we thoroughly enjoyed every bit of sheesh!
Although high on price tag, worth a try for good Turkish delight!
