Pizza Express on Barrett Street is one of the liveliest restaurants in St Christopher’s Place, and its versatile character makes it just as suited to a leisurely lunch post-shopping or an evening meal with your friends. The al fresco dining area is particularly buzzing during the summer.
Pizza Express is an old favourite but I had not been for a long time till last week when needing a quick bite before while waiting for a friend. The menu was much the same as I remember but why change a winning formula? So I chose a pizza I used to like, and it tasted just great, better than I remember. When you dine alone and have somewhere to go you don't want a long drawn out finish or to be hanging around for the bill. I remember this used to be an issue. Not so last week in Dean Street Soho, very efficient and polite service. Top marks from me
It's hard to go wrong with pizza express. The food is good. The service is good. And the atmosphere is always nice.
Went to watch the late show on the 7th Feb and got seated with our orders taken very quickly as we only had a certain amount of time to eat before the show started. Cannelloni was great as usual and the staff were pleasant and professional.
We took our bottle of wine from dinner down to the show in the basement and watched a great set from Peter Bernstein and his quartet. Music was excellent, as was the atmosphere. Personally, the sound of the piano was a little 'overdone' and seemed slightly electronic rather than the natural acoustic sound, while all the other instruments sounded great. Not sure why it sounded that way! Otherwise, a great evening.
Would have been 4 stars but the concert was outstanding. This is an up market Pizza Express in Soho. As usual upstairs, but down is a music venue with bookable tables.
So you can have your Sloppy Guiseppe, then relax with a bottle and watch the show. Not cheap as such but great value when the cabaret is the great Barb Jungr.
If you haven't heard her, try YouTube, she is a ballad singer who often does covers of Dylan, Elvis and Sting. Her voice is very powerful and emotional with touches of Helen Reddy and Peggy Lee, great humourous banter too.
You can tell that some of the starters are pre-cooked and Italians might say that this is not the best pizza, but with the right vouchers you can get really tasty food and quickly.
Staff is very helpful and welcoming.
