Want to know which summer trends are really worth investing in? We asked the experts for you. Aurora Benson, Womenswear Buying Manager at John Lewis, shares the top 6 trends she is backing this season, and which key items you need to add to your wardrobe right now.

Linen
“Linen is a total summer staple year after year, mostly because it’s just so versatile. I love having a bit of fun with it – try opting for punchy shades like cobalt blue or sunset orange to really make a statement. I’d also suggest playing around with layering; styling a maxi slip dress over wide-leg trousers is such a fresh, modern way to wear it.”
Co-ords
“The co-ord is definitely here to stay this season, as we’re all looking for those hard-working pieces that offer multiple looks in one. When I’m browsing, I always look for options that can pivot easily from a heatwave office look to something chic for a summer evening out or a holiday away.”
Modern florals
“Florals are being reimagined as wearable art this season. We’re moving away from those traditional, safe prints towards much bolder, more elevated options. Think big graphic prints on fluid fabrics, or even ditsy florals toughened up on utility-style co-ords.”
Statement footwear
“Thankfully, ‘statement’ footwear is no longer measured by the height of the heel! This summer, nostalgic wedges and kitten heels are taking over the pavements, and I’m also seeing so many great chunky, braided styles that are as comfortable as they are cool. The best pairs are the ones you can throw on with jeans at the weekend, wide-leg trousers for the office, and then pack for a holiday to wear with your favourite co-ords.”
Silk scarves
“A silk scarf is still my must-have accessory for easily injecting a bit of personality into any outfit. My tip is to invest in a colourway that complements what’s already in your wardrobe so you can wear it a dozen ways – as a headscarf, a neck tie, a belt, or my personal favourite: tied around my handbag straps.”
Polka dots
“Polka dots are absolutely everywhere right now and I love how playful they feel. A full-throttle polka dot look (a matching co-ord) feels so chic and effortless. I’m particularly loving the print in monochrome; it’s such a sophisticated shout for a wedding guest outfit.”
