Light Lunch at Patara


Renowned for its authentic Thai food and superb flavours, the arrival of the new ‘lighter’ lunch menu at Patara was cause for a visit. On the East side of Oxford Street just 30 seconds from the plethora of shops is the fine dining Thai restaurant, the new lunch menu has a selection of traditional favourites and is ideal for sharing if you’re looking for a lunch full of variety.

These dishes are smaller so it’s suggested that you have 2-3 dishes each depending on how hungry you are. The menu is split across salads, steamed, grilled or fried dishes and curries so you’ll be able to get dishes from each section.

You can choose to have your dished staggered or arrive when ready – we opted for the later. First out was the Mushroom Nam Tok salad with a deliciously dressed variety of mushrooms with fresh lime and chilli. Skewers of Chicken Satay where moreish and juicy and came with plenty of satay sauce for dipping.


This was followed by the Chilli & Sea Salt Calamari, they were cooked to perfection and came with crunchy green and red chilli. The Curried Seabass was served with a rich, full-flavour sauce and we had it with fragrant Jasmine Rice.



The star of the show had to be our King Prawn Pad Thai.


Succulent king prawns sit on top of a bed of noodles, tofu, bean sprouts and egg. The sweetness of the tamarind sauce beautifully balanced with the saltiness of the peanuts. A real must-try.

Now it’s not typical to have a dessert at lunch but our waiter recommended we try one of Patara’s signature dish as mangos are in season and all the way from Thailand so we couldn’t refuse. The dish was Kaoneow Mamuang, Coconut sweet rice served with chunks of fragrant, sweet, juciy Thai mango. If you’re looking to try something traditional this is it. We couldn’t help to try another one Patara’s deserts as the menu looked so exciting, we would suggest you leave room to try one.


Pancake Sangkaya Baitoey is a pancake filled with pandan custard and served with coconut ice-cream and fresh berries. Pandan is a fragrant tropical herb as common as vanilla in Southeast Asia it has a comforting flavour like vanilla but with a tropical notes that are hard to put your finger on but you can’t help go back for more.

The food at Patara is exquisite; traditional Thai food served impeccably. The light lunch menu offers a range of the classic dishes that are perfect for sharing and the smaller price tag means you can enjoy fine dining for less.
