The Ninth is the latest restaurant by London-based chef Jun Tanaka. Located on Charlotte street in the heart of London’s buzzy Fitzrovia neighbourhood, the contemporary, yet warm and inviting 90-seater restaurant offers up simple but refined French Mediterranean-style dishes, all made for sharing. The a la carte menu – available at lunch and dinner – focuses on the finest seasonal produce and vibrant, honest flavours. Specialties include house-cured meats and fish, robust French classics with Jun’s signature fresh twist, and lovingly thought-out vegetable dishes that are more than just ‘sides’.Lunchi is served from 12pm - 2.30pm and dinner from 5.30pm - 10,30pm Monday to Saturday. The Ninth is closed on Sundays and Bank Hoildays.
I booked a table for three people in well advance upstairs near the window to celebrate my birthday. On arrival we were suggested a table on the ground floor for two and told that upstairs was closed for a private event. They just put the third chair in the aisle on the way! We disagreed and after several discussions were given a table in the corner. They could have told that it was going to be an event upstairs when they called a day before to confirm the table! And honestly nobody was coming from the first floor even to toilet downstairs, so they just closed it and didn’t inform.
It was my second time there. First was a year ago in the evening and food was great so I decided to invite my friends there.
But yesterday the best dish was a dessert- their Tart Tatin. They didn’t include the Red Mullet with inedible mashed potato in our bill because we left it as well as their burnt Broccoli.
It's always a pleasure to be at the The Ninth. The food is outstanding and it has the atmosphere to match. Pair that with amazingly talented staff and we have a perfect restaurant. Please don't stop what you are doing.
Perfect for everything, one star less just because no steak is served in lunch menu... I am trying to lose weight and do not eat too much for dinner
Service: very attentive and perfect balanced, not too much, not ignorant.
Menu Variety: not a lot to choose, but still interesting seasonal dishes
Taste: well balanced between authentic(unique) and generalize, no surprise, not bad.
Had lunch here yesterday and we were a large ish group of 8 people. Can honestly say that all of the food was excellent. Delicious combinations of flavour and texture. Staff were friendly and professional. Only minor criticism is that the whole thing took a long time, however it was quite an array of beautifully presented dishes which were clearly cooked to order. Will be back.
Delicious food, we took 10 or 12 different plates to share and all were tasty. Very good wine as well. Tables were a bit too small but still ok. Good money for value.
