We had a nice meal at the gaucho. We opted for the set menu which is good value for money although you do not have access to the full menu. The service was spotless and all the staff was welcoming and friendly. One thing you have to keep in mind is that they always try to get you overspend in drinks and side dishes so be watchful if you are on a budget.
This outpost from Gaucho is stylish and easy to miss. The main seating area is below ground. Drinks are decent, a Negroni required a second attempt as it was too stirred down at first but all in all, decent for a restaurant. They serve a spiral cut of their main steaks - rib eye, sirloin, fillet, and they are great. They come with herbs on them and are interesting as a departure from traditional steaks. We were a big table and service was slow but it a disaster. The food was very good in general. If it were quicker I would have given 5 stars.
Spectacular venue in the heart of the Charlotte Street culinary zone. The Rib eye was cooked to perfection and was so so tasty. The accompanying Argentinian Merlot was also not far from perfect and the service was attentive and polite.
We arrived just in time for our reservation and the host at the door was pleasant and smily. She took our coats and bags and led us down to the restaurant.
It was dimly lit and intimate. Spotlights are used so in one seat, you're lit, and directly across from the table, you're not. The seats were fine.
Our server was enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the menu and different cuts of steak. The board with the visual representation of the steaks was a great touch. He was attentive and our glass were never empty.
The steaks were.... Ok. Not particularly bursting with flavour. When we asked for steak knives, we were told that we don't need them, as the steaks were tender enough to be cut with a regular. Although that was somewhat true, it did take away from the experience not having a sharp steak knife.
The chips were nice, hot and salted well. The atmosphere was cool and the music wasn't too loud where we couldn't hold a conversation. Everything was just fine. Nothing special. Just right.
Hip Location. Great food. REal Gaucho style. What I appreciated most is you get choice of raw steak before to order presented on a wooden plate.
