Fernandez & Wells was founded by Jorge Fernandez and Rick Wells in 2006, the result of a meeting in a coffee shop. At the time Jorge was manager at the Monmouth Coffee Company while Rick, a journalist with the BBC, was a regular customer. The vision was (and is) to provide a simple menu of the best food and drink products it can find and serve them in a space that is both beautiful and welcoming. The style is rustic and wholesome but in a setting that is definitely urban and contemporary.
The food is very simple but super tasty.
Great selection of wine and best service ever 😊
This small restaurant has 15 metal stools around a wooden bar where you eat next to the cash register, bottles, menus, etc. We came on a Saturday at 5:30pm and found none of the sandwiches or baked goods on display in many of the photos here. It looked pretty spartan and rustic with the griddles and cookware a few feet away. There were 8 main “plates” (I recommend the chorizo fresco), ranging from 4.5 to 11.5 GBP each, and nearly as many toast/egg options as well. 4 cheeses and cured meats were also on the menu (each independently for 8 GBP, no combo board). A nice wine menu, several available by the glass and a few more by the bottle-only. All said, we made a decent meal of it, but we’re disappointed by the selection and felt a bit like eating in a kitchen.
I usually like Ferdinand & Wells but the service in this store is really lacking. It's a tiny space that is approx 50-50 split bar/seating.
The person behind the counter was sooooo slow at serving that by the time our drinks and food arrived we had to gobble it down and rush out to another appointment. Naturally she didn't know we were in a hurry but this place is designed to be somewhere you can dip into for a quick drink & snack....on my visit this wasn't the case.
Average selection of drinks with a decent selection of Mediterranean meats/cheeses at London prices.
Casual Spanish tapas and wine place cosy to have a glass of wine, some starters before going for dinner nearby.
Only inconvenient aspects are that they are cooking in front of you without a ventilation system in place, hence you smell afterwards just as what they were cooking and there are most of the chairs in a row at the bar, not many tables, therefore a little bit less romantic and inviting to stay for a while.
Dishes looked great though!!!
Excellent tapas and wine, always seem to squeeze you in no matter how busy!
