For a cafe it is very nice. Service was good. Staff very friendly. The grilled chicken with mushroom sauce was very good. The special bread pudding also very tasty.

Tucked away in Market Place behind Oxford Circus there's a small cluster of mid-range eateries...most with al fresco options... and frequented often by a thirty-something crowd looking for decent fare without gouging prices. Well, why shouldn't we all benefit from a wallet-friendly experience? I chose Côte for an evening supper with friends.

Côte offers an approximate French bistro experience, and manages to succeed pretty well with its cooking. For those, me included, who carp that the decor isn't really very French bistro... well, it's still comfortable, even spacious and uncramped, in this particular outlet at least.

The food, if anything, seems to have gotten better, and was certainly scrummy on our visit. Côte in its early years seemed to be more about chicken and steak... oh, and those goujons of sole that have always been a great lunch standard. Good stews too. Well, they've spread those culinary wings a bit over the years. My crab salad was delicious, and the salmon that followed it was moist and full of flavour. The wine list is pretty decent and competitively priced too. Our Fleurie was well-sourced and luscious.

The welcome is warm, and the staff friendly and helpful. The chefs can really cook. The bill's not heavy. S'gotta be worth a look. Enjoy!

The service tonight wasn't up to Côte's usual high standard. We ordered from the pre theatre set menu, but it was good that we weren't going to the theatre as we didn't get our mains until nearly 8.30pm. I took some food for my baby but it took nearly an hour for it to be warmed up. The food was tasty, I recommend the venison cottage pie. Usually Côte is brilliant, and it's not put me off going again, but just wasn't great tonight.
