This month we explored the Lebanese restaurant, Comptoir Libanais which has opened in John Lewis and on Poland Street in Soho. To celebrate, we’re giving you the chance to win diner for two. You can enter here.
The décor instantly transports you to a Middle-Eastern atmosphere with bold, bright patterns and colours. The menu is just as bright and with the company’s iconic face inspired by a vintage movie poster, of the amazing Arabic actress, Sirine Jamal al Dine.
Jumping straight to the cocktails, you’ll find classic as well as cocktails with a Lebanese twist and you can pimp up the fresh lemonade with vodka for an ‘adult’ lemonade. We tried the Mojito Twist and the Roomana Vodka Lemonade, both super delicious and refreshing.
We chose the dip platter and Jawaneh hot mezze to start…
The dip platter has hommos, baba ganoush and labneh which is a yoghurt dip served with olive oil and spices. The dips were full of flavour and good size portions served with pitta and traditional pickles. The Jawaneh, chargrilled marinated wings with incredibly succulent and perfectly spiced.
The mains range from grills, tagines, salads and house favourites. We decided to go for classics with the Lamb & Prunes Tagine and Shish Taouk Grill.
Lamb and prunes are a beautiful combination and full of such sweet flavours. The tagine is served with soft butternut squash, peas and topped with roasted almonds. Completely the classic dish was cous cous which is even tastier when soaked in the juice of the tagine.
The Shish Taouk is grilled chicken breast piece and is served with vermicelli rice, a speciality at Comptoir and absolute incredible. We recommend you try this for yourself. Served with spicy potatoes the grill satisfies in so many ways.
To end our Middle Eastern experience we ordered some mint tea which was warming and sweet.
For dessert, we chose frozen yoghurt topped with pistachios and halva which has a nougat taste and texture making a moreish palette cleanser. We also shared a mango cheesecake which was just HEAVEN!
Comptoir Libanais relaxing atmosphere and big-flavoured dishes make this a go-to restaurant of choice for a family get together or catch up with friends any day of the week. Share your experience with us @OxfordStreetW1 #OXSThotspot.
