Back in 2002 Andre Blais had a dream – to bring the taste, the style, the soul of his beloved Kansas City barbecue to the UK! Years later, the Bodean’s family of diner-delis goes from strength to strength – the results of a tireless team effort dedicated to delivering Authentic American BBQ.Today, the Bodean’s BBQ team are always out and about making sure that the slow-smoked BBQ, secret rubs and sauce recipes are up to scratch, and the BBQ obsession and attention as seen in KC are kept alive.
We came here for a friend's leaving dinner and I heard the food here was supposed to be superb. For a BBQ joint, I was quite disappointed by the quality of the meat and they way it was cooked.
My friend who's been a few times only gets the pulled pork because she said the ribs were too dry. My boyfriend and I got the BBQ sharing platter so we could try all the meats. My friend was completely right, the ribs were way too dry and burned in a bad way, and the chicken was okay. The only good option was the pulled pork.
If it wasn't for my friend's 10% off card, I would have found Bodean's to be overpriced, when the only decent thing on the menu is pulled pork. They really need to improve their ribs!
If you're after something uncomplicated, filling and not too hard on the wallet, you could do a lot worse than Bodean's.
The Soho Special was great - I'm writing this a fortnight later and literally salivating thinking about it. Chunks of brisket and pulled pork together in a bun with excellent fries and coleslaw 👌
So you probably already heard about this place in some guide.... and yes... all the claims are true. This place is NUTS. The pulled pork is out of this world and their home made sauces kill it straight up. The place in SOHO also airs NFL games that are on FOX/Sky. The bar on the ground floor is perfectly fine for eating and hanging out and the wait for the downstairs restaurant (1-2 hours) is not worth it. just get your grub on upstairs.
Popped in on the off-chance there might be a table on a Tuesday night and were in luck. We sat downstairs where it was pretty busy, and had to wait no more than a minute or two for a table to become available. The waiting staff were friendly and despite being a 'trainee' (according to the badge) she knew her stuff. We went for a mix of bbq and hot chicken wings to start, which were excellent. The hot ones had a bit of a tang but weren't really hot, just a little spicy. They were all very tasty. Two of our group had a full rack of ribs which were amazing. Probably some of the best ribs I've had. Tons of meat, which came off the bone easily, and was just the right mix of sticky, soft and so cooked just right. Bottled beer selection was fine. Our bill was 30 quid a head. Will definitely go back.
Great and generous plates of meat with a sport bar ambiance and American beers. In sunny days you can seat outside an enjoy people watching in Soho, guarantee to surprise you. Fantastic BBQ sauce. Eating with your fingers is acceptable here.
