Under the direction of Michelin-starred Executive Chef Jason Atherton, Berners Tavern is a gastronomic gem ina truly breathtaking setting.Situated in The London Edition Hotel, offering a contemporary British menu that is simple yet elegant, using the very best product in the British Isles. But don't just trrust us, here just some of the rave reviews from London's influencers.
This place definitely has the wow factor. It's a stunning and very grand venue. If you're not impressed with the look, you're a hard person to please. I couldn't fault the food either. The crab omelette was tasty, but £3.50 for a side of avocado was a bit steep considering it was literally just half an avocado on a separate plate. I would have thought they would have dressed it up on a bit at least. I wasn't very impressed with the staff either. When we arrived, we had to wait a while before being addressed and it wasn't overly busy in my opinion. I left with the impression that staff weren't as attentive as they should be for an establishment like this. I ordered a flat white which arrived, but I had to ask for some sugar and they didn't check if we were ok or if we required anything further once our food arrived. It took a while to get their attention for the bill too. When I asked if there was a disabled toilet, the staff wasn't sure and said he would check with the manager. It took a while, but eventually he confirmed there was one and walked me to it. For the price, I expected a better experience.
We ate early, two families with two toddlers. Well, we ARRIVED early, but it took an hour for the food to arrive, even though the place was largely empty. Our kids were starting to flip the hell out, as kids do when they are hungry and stuck in one place.
When our mains finally arrived, half of them were cold, as though they'd been left waiting on the side for the salad chef to turn up and make the salad dishes. The salads were bland and tasteless, so maybe he never turned up and someone else made them because we'd started to complain.
Staff spent more time chatting with each other around the sides of the room than caring about serving us.
Thoroughly unimpressed. We left with the sense that we weren't good enough for the Berners Tavern with our kids, despite the fact that one of us owns a PR agency who takes clients there all the time. No longer.
This is the first place in my life, where I asked for the service charge to be taken off. Read on.The food was decent, but nothing mind blowing. There's a good selection of wine, but it's spoiled by a shockingly slow and inattentive service. We ended up taking our bottle and pouring ourselves. I'm not too fine to do that, but then ...I'd go to a significantly cheaper establishment to do that. Sad.
Great interior, friendly staff and tasty food. Berners Tavern is family friendly and kids loved the food as well. Great cocktails for start - try the Ageing Hipster.
Great atmosphere. Feels like having dinner in a art gallery. Awesome attentive staff. Definitely going back.
